Southwind Airlines: Unfair Airspace Ban Announcement

Date: 02 April, 2024

Southwind Airlines is subjected to an unfair and baseless airspace ban in Europe!

Following Finland’s unfair complaint to the European Union (EU), an airspace ban was imposed on our Turkish registered company, Southwind Airlines, on the grounds that it had connections with Russia, without any evidence or concrete justification. While the ban decision was conveyed from the EU to the Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the airspace ban began to be implemented maliciously as of March 28, 2024, one day before the Easter holiday, without investigating the allegations and requesting a response from us. The official notification regarding the ban on using European airspace imposed on our company by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has not been sent to either the official authorities of our country or to our company through any concrete document. It is a completely unfair, biased, rumour- based, malevolent practice. We experienced a similar unfounded claim about our company in the news published by the German Bild Newspaper on December 22, 2023, with the title “Putin’s Airline”, which was unfounded and lacking any evidence. Accordingly, an application was filed to the judiciary authorities for this false news, which was maliciously published to coincide with the Christmas holiday, and a verdict was awarded to remove the news, as a result of the case that was finalized in our favour. Southwind Airlines has transported more than 400 thousand passengers to Europe without any problems since August 2022. In addition, within the framework of the 2024 program, 100 thousand of the 300 thousand seat capacity that we put up for sale with approval from the German civil aviation authority (LBA) for flights to Germany have been sold, and these passengers will fly with our company in the summer season of the year 2024. This unfair decision has seriously affected both our business partners in Germany and the German citizens who choose to fly with our company. We believe that this decision, taken without any response from the official authorities of the Republic of Turkey and our company, is political. As Southwind Airlines, we have been carrying out all our operations in compliance with the rules applied by the EU and the USA since the day we were founded. We have not received any warnings about any issue, and we continue our commercial activities as a company that has received appreciation from the relevant official institutions of Europe within the scope of the security and safety policies we implement. As Southwind Airlines, we make every effort to prevent our passengers from suffering any grievance. We have initiated the application process and legal processes before the official authorities to ensure that this unfair decision is lifted as soon as possible.

We sincerely/announce to the public.

Southwind Airlines: Unfair Airspace Ban Announcement 30 Nisan 2024

Mehmet Kali

Hello everyone. My name is Mehmet Kali. In the industry, I am known as "Kali". I graduated from the first civil aviation training school in Turkey, which was known as the Civil Aviation School at the time and is now Eskişehir Technical University, in 1991. As I graduated from the Business Administration department, it was a bit challenging for me to integrate into the industry. I have worked for companies such as SultanAir, DHMI, Havaş, and Swissair, and currently, I provide services and consultancy in air cargo transportation. I have experience in dispatching, air traffic control, passenger services, and aircraft coordination. During my time at Swissair, I had the opportunity to experience aviation training in many countries. Since 2012, I have been focusing on air cargo transportation. For three years, I taught courses on air cargo at Nişantaşı University. I still hold valid IATA certifications related to both passenger and cargo operations. For over ten years, I have been managing aeroportist.com, a news website related to aviation, which initially started as a hobby. I enjoy building aviation networks and sharing knowledge. If there is anything I can contribute to, I am here. Best regards "kali"
