June-End Airplane, Passenger, and Cargo Traffic Announced

In June, a total of 21,001,265 passengers were served at our airports.

In the first six months, 94,467,625 passengers traveled by air.

The General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey announced the air traffic, passenger, and cargo statistics for June 2023.

Accordingly, the number of aircraft taking off and landing at our passenger and eco-friendly airports was 76,996 on domestic routes and 83,025 on international routes. The overflight traffic in the same month was 41,311. Thus, the total aircraft traffic reached 201,332, including overflights. Compared to the same month of 2022, there was an increase of 4.2% in domestic aircraft traffic, 15.4% in international aircraft traffic, and 12.6% in total aircraft traffic including overflights.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, passenger traffic decreased significantly worldwide and in our country. However, in June 2023, the passenger traffic surpassed the level of June 2019. In June 2023, the total passenger traffic at our airports, including direct transit, reached 103% of the passenger traffic in June 2019. In the same month, the total aircraft traffic, including overflights, reached 106% of the previous level.

In June, the domestic passenger traffic at airports across Turkey was 8,507,530, and the international passenger traffic was 12,473,034. Thus, a total of 21,001,265 passengers were served during this month. Compared to the same month of 2022, there was an increase of 14.2% in domestic passenger traffic, 16.3% in international passenger traffic, and 15.5% in total passenger traffic including direct transit.

The cargo (freight, mail, and baggage) traffic at airports was 78,795 tons on domestic routes and 305,157 tons on international routes, reaching a total of 383,952 tons in June.

At Istanbul Airport, 6,745,686 passengers were served in June. The number of aircraft traffic, including domestic and international flights, was 44,705.

At Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, there were 20,218 aircraft movements in June, with 3,206,789 passengers served.

At Istanbul Atatürk Airport, where general aviation activities continue, there were 2,241 aircraft movements in June.

In the first six months (January to June), the aircraft traffic at airports was 412,724 on domestic routes and 352,823 on international routes. Thus, a total of 987,375 aircraft movements were recorded, including overflights.

Compared to the same period in 2022, there was an increase of 13.8% in domestic aircraft traffic, 23.5% in international aircraft traffic, and 20.2% in total aircraft traffic including overflights.

During this period, the domestic passenger traffic at airports nationwide was 42,532,180, and the international passenger traffic was 51,823,728. Together with direct transit passengers, a total of 94,467,625 passengers were served.

Compared to the same period in 2022, there was an increase of 18.5% in domestic passenger traffic, 32% in international passenger traffic, and 25.4% in total passenger traffic including direct transit.

The cargo (freight, mail, and baggage) traffic at airports during this period was 388,135 tons on domestic routes and 1,458,438 tons on international routes, reaching a total of 1,846,574 tons.
