Big Data Consultant
There is an increasing demand for the unique services provided by the Airline Solutions consulting team. The breadth of capabilities includes:
- Operations research
- Business process consulting
- Organization design/re-design
- Change management
- Solution integration
- Business intelligence
- Commercial planning, alliances, sales & channel optimization
As the Operations Research consulting group is expanding, we seek a professional who has demonstrated capabilities in software development. The selected candidate will support consulting projects on site with clients.
Scope of responsibilities:
- Playing a contributor role in on-site Operations Research consulting projects requiring up to 75% travel.
- Evaluating customer requirements and collaborating with both internal and external teams in solution development.
- Designing functional/logical models, developing software for optimization and data management (access, load, manipulation etc.) including Map Reduce, Pig/Hive scripts, support apps (UDFs and scripts for job scheduling) and test plans.
- Providing operational support and software testing help.
- Documenting design and implementation of underlying processes.
- Preparing project plans, issue/change management, and source code management.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will possess a working knowledge of the air-line, travel and/or closely aligned to transportation/supply chain business segments.
Competencies:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or in equal field required. Dual undergraduate major in Computer Science and Operations Research a big plus.
- 2 plus years of working experience as Java developer.
- Ability to develop numerical algorithms in Java.
- Proficiency in Unix/Linux as well as scripting languages (Shell/Perl/Python).
- Thorough understanding of database concepts (diagramming, normalization, relational algebra) and SQL.
- Experience in RDBMS (Oracle/Teradata/MySQL) is highly desired.
- Experience in Big Data technologies (Hadoop/Pig/Hive), ETL, and data visualization is highly desired.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and customer engagements simultaneously.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Self-starter who is highly motivated.
