Air Astana strengthens regulations on lithium battery transport

With effect from 13th March 2025, the Air Astana Group is strengthening its regulations on the transport of lithium batteries and battery-powered devices in order to enhance flight safety.

The existing policy and rules requires that spare batteries, including power banks and electronic smoking devices, are permitted only in carry-on baggage. If carry-on baggage needs to be checked-in, passengers are required to remove all spare batteries in advance.

In accordance with existing rules the maximum allowable battery capacity is 100Wh. Batteries with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh may only be transported with prior airline approval, with a limit of two per passenger. The transport of batteries exceeding 160 Wh is prohibited. The capacity will be verified and the transportation of batteries without capacity markings or proper certification is prohibited.

For flight safety reasons, lithium batteries, external batteries and electronic smoking devices must be kept in hand luggage and placed on the luggage racks in the cabin. The use of batteries to charge other devices, as well as charging the batteries themselves on board is strictly prohibited.

Air Astana and FlyArystan strongly advise passengers to review the battery transport regulations prior the flight (https://airastana.com/kaz-en/information/dangerous-goods, https://flyarystan.com/en/hand-baggage, https://flyarystan.com/en/baggage) to avoid any inconvenience.

Hello everyone. My name is Mehmet Kali. In the industry, I am known as "Kali". I graduated from the first civil aviation training school in Turkey, which was known as the Civil Aviation School at the time and is now Eskişehir Technical University, in 1991. As I graduated from the Business Administration department, it was a bit challenging for me to integrate into the industry. I have worked for companies such as SultanAir, DHMI, Havaş, and Swissair, and currently, I provide services and consultancy in air cargo transportation. I have experience in dispatching, air traffic control, passenger services, and aircraft coordination. During my time at Swissair, I had the opportunity to experience aviation training in many countries. Since 2012, I have been focusing on air cargo transportation. For three years, I taught courses on air cargo at Nişantaşı University. I still hold valid IATA certifications related to both passenger and cargo operations. For over ten years, I have been managing aeroportist.com, a news website related to aviation, which initially started as a hobby. I enjoy building aviation networks and sharing knowledge. If there is anything I can contribute to, I am here. Best regards "kali"
