Diyarbakır Airport and the main runway at the 8th Main Jet Base will be closed to flights for 30 days from 24 May due to repair work. Civil flights will be directed to Batman and Mardin airports.

In the written statement made by the governorship, it was stated that the airport will be closed to flights due to the work that will take 30 days, and said, "The 8th Main Jet Base Command and Diyarbakır Airport main runway will be closed to all flights on May 24, 2021 in order to repair the deterioration caused by increased civil and military flights. The necessary coordination has been ensured with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Transport. This repair is aimed to be completed within 30 days. During this period, civil flights will be directed to Batman and Mardin Airports, which are the surrounding airports, in order to avoid any unjust treatment. It was said that as of May 20, 2021, it will continue its duties by moving to different airports.
